Are you using the command flag : --excludes-file="path-to-your-excludes-file" Maybe worth a shot trying : --exclude="System Volume Information" and see if that makes things work differently? It should not change anything...
I have written a very basic ([separate script](https://gist.github.com/henri/a6584d55813f971e5b1a4ee940c07d25)) which will read the messages. It has not got all the features you are after. But you or I could improve it...
