I know it's been a couple months but I also had a little bit of a hard time with it since I was as looking for an actual "default model"...
@o-nikolas pointed out an opportunity to make it a little more efficient, so I took that. Final revision (I hope)
Some of those commits were trial and error so I'm cleaning up the commits and clearing ou5t some unnecessary changes.
Should fix Ephraim's concerns about the serialized dag and resolved a merge conflict
