It looks like [Obsidian's Roadmap](https://obsidian.md/roadmap/) now has visual table editing actively in development.

Feature Request: Cell padding

I don't think @jpfieber is referring to the plugin code, but rather the unformatted Markdown source for the table. The ["Advanced Tables" plugin](https://github.com/tgrosinger/advanced-tables-obsidian) will add whitespace to the Markdown source...
