By emerging wireguard-tools I was able to see what config options needed to be enabled by reading the warnings from portage. The Mullvad daemon is working now.

I'm having what looks like the same problem. Though using `alsa` as MPDs output gives me perfectly normal audio levels, whereas the `pulse` and `pipewire` outputs give me quiet audio....
