w.r.t. 0269a1824270d337199f9eeddba1241a5039c2c8, I was actually hoping it would be more automatic. Something like 1. main.sh creates two temporary directories. One is in /tmp, the other is in $CHROOTSRC/.crouton-tmp or something...

That *could* be all that's required, or there might be other things preventing Jammy from installing. Have you tested it?
