No, it hasen't been solved yet (as far as I know).
Not at the moment but it should be quite easy to add another config option for this.
I think it would probably be a better idea to try and use the background colour of the panel itself. I will have a look to see if that is...
I managed to reproduce this without disconnecting any screens (with two screens though). Still have no idea what could be happening.
Will possibly be fixed by #46.
I will test this briefly after merging #48 and will close it if I can't reproduce.

I just didn't do a release since merging it.
I planned to do a new release after the new i3-ipc-glibc release, but I guess I can make a minor release with the the changes since the last release.
No, there isn't. Feel free to add a configuration item for it and open a PR.
