How about instead of making the key functions pure virtual, giving them a default implementation in the existing interface and doing the customization in some derived msgpack/cbor/whatever parser? Then internally...

That's not an mtxclient bug, that would be a Nheko bug or an issue with the verification message order in the other client, presumably.
No, there were no changes related to this. The only change was 2 lines in the check what versions the server returns.
