I'm against using an external service for AV checking. This is an application firewall not an Antivirus... But, as an application firewall, we allow "executables" to connect to the Internet....

I think checking the hash is more useful for user owned executables since for system binaries (apt installed) need root for installing and a malware would need to scalate privileges.
