Confirmed working for me in X11 but not from the frame buffer

What version of WiPi are you running? the logs should appear in /var/log - open the netdimm_send.log file and post the contents please

You can try adjusting the GPU memory settings in config txt, gpu_mem=64 might work?

You could use a larger SD card, extend the rootfs and add a swap file? or better, use an external USB pen drive for a swap? space is really tight...
