For human readability I would suggest changing the term name to inflamed. The process should be inflammation, or inflammatory response and GO can figure out how to model that later.
At ZFIN we need increased hardness and decreased hardness. I think other users may need absolute hard/soft descriptions but I don't have a use case for hard/soft.
