Does anyone have time in the near future to tackle the switch to Black formatting? Once this is implemented, I can enable Black as a pre-commit hook in #11541.

No worries! The milestone deadline is set to April 15, so I guess this is what we're aiming for (but @larsoner can tell for sure).

This seems to depend on the specific server instance. For example [scholar.social](https://scholar.social) does have a search icon (a magnifying glass) in the sidebar, which stays visible in all layouts.
