Yeah, that seems like it works as expected, as when the `--storage-active-memory` is full it is rotated out.

@starsdeep I had previously built and used [this](https://github.com/brancz/ambench), I remember having taken mutex profiles and seen a lot of lock contention starting at the dispatcher.

I would look closer at that Dispatcher `90s` that's in the ingest path of alerts being added through the API.
Maybe it means that remote write is not good enough. You only have up to 2 hours to even still have that WAL around in this scenario, at which point...
Sounds like concretely for this, we need a way to cut a head block safely that doesn't have the 1.5x time requirement/heuristic.
