Can this be merged now that the minimum required Emacs version is 26.1?

@prateek22sri Do you have any new information? Which version of Ubuntu? What is your `configure.log`?

If you have a copy of the branch before the rebase, or just a patch of the changes, I can try applying it.

These changes to the references are necessary for passing on my machines. It may have something to do with SymPy versions on them vs. on sst-test2.
