I'm a bit conflicted by this, building from source shouldn't be the preferred build option and `contrib/` is mainly for extras that I'd prefer not to offer direct support for....
No, this is definitely a parsing issue that has to be fixed by the grammar upstream. (I also can't find that quote anywhere)
Could you also use inherits to add a light variant? The scheme was designed to work with both light and dark variants so it shouldn't require other changes
This is changing code that has been untouched for years, and I think it's changing the desired behaviour. Since when did this regress?
Can you reproduce on a build from `master` so we get the full backtrace? The PPA has symbols stripped so the backtrace isn't very useful. Looking at your commit sha,...

I find the jump label a bit jarring perhaps? But it's up to the theme author
