Is there anything below `FFMPEG STDERR OUTPUT:`? I suspect ffmpeg does not like the arguments and gave up.
I'm not sure if I follow. You don't mean async as in `await ...` using `asyncio`, or do are you? Your code example feels more like it will do the...
I'd write the frames to image files using imageio and see if the text is visible there. If not, it's likely related to the `putText` cal.

What if we go for C-API bindings instead? Then we can use the binary wgpu-native releases, and use simpler tooling (e.g. cython).
The answer to all questions is "I think so". I'm pretty sure ppl use Cython for this sort of thing. But perhaps there are other tools too.
