This is at the discussion stage. In particular, the results need to be tested against other libraries that expect strip meshes, and we need to examine assumptions.

General comment: this good. It's also in very strong need of documentation showing why you would choose one or the other, and how to use one or the other.
We can close this.
Closing: we've done a lot of development in these areas since this issue was opened, and I can't recreate this now with axom develop on freebsd with the pkg mfem-4.4_7....
