This is a limitation of the original Inventor specification. See [Inventor documentation](https://developer.openinventor.com/refmans/9.9/RefManCpp/index.html) . I agree, that we should improve the Coin documentation of the SoNurbsCurve/Surface classes to pinpoint those limitations.
