Ffmpeg also requires you to tag the 8 bit ycbcr correctly for it to be hdr. PQ at the very least + bt.2020 ncl and bt.2020 primaries. -colorspace bt2020nc -color_primaries...

Implemented in mpv with gpu-next and winvk. No apple support yet.
