Well, this [commit on the 12.1 branch](https://github.com/LawnchairLauncher/lawnchair/commit/02179d2ac755c1a4e4913b49cc3c0ea188390869) adds an option to make the background translucent, so the issue is partially fixed. Still need the full "change color" though.
