OK. #2187 broke the new feature in #2183. Reverting and trying again from there.
This in the pipe for review after #1812, @aussig this PR may require minor updates and edits after 1812 is merged due to potential conflicts.
@A-UNDERSCORE-D you mentioned above this will need a rewrite, should I close this PR at this point then?
