It seems like we should actually get rid of the [deprecated recommonmark package](https://github.com/readthedocs/recommonmark/issues/221) and move to the [MyST-Parser](https://github.com/executablebooks/MyST-Parser), as they propose.

I don't think anyone is trying to reference priors from other files, but this seems to be a somewhat useful enhancement, so I'm keeping it open..

Still seems to be the case, but I'm not sure how serious this problem is :thinking: If someone feels up for it, they could try to implement it, apparently similar...
