I'd like to add that this issue also happens with the paper recipe from IE. It's four sawdust and a water bucket. Same steps to reproduce.
I'd like to also add that the wires become completely invisible if you go to a different dimension and then come back to the overworld.

You know, I never thought to check to see if there was a receipe to to uncompress those blocks. There isn't. That would explain my issue. I assumed the compression...
