Latest version of daid's is 15.04.5, by the way, so that may be a bug in the updater too. See https://ultimaker.com/en/products/cura-software for a download.

I'd suggest trying the 2.1 version (which is to be the future of Cura), or if all fails revert to an older version. Both can be downloaded from here: https://ultimaker.com/en/products/cura-software/list

To actually answer your question though, the filament diameter for Printrbot shows up as 1.75 by default for me. It's 2.85 for Ultimaker printers though. Perhaps you had the wrong...
We have a Printrbot Simple definition in 2.2. Not in 2.1 yet. The Printrbot Simple definition has been tested to also work fine with the Simple Metal.

Dragging the object has no effect? Or is it the g-code that doesn't change?
