Not sure if this is still active but I'm having this failure too right now. I would indeed assume it's not fixed yet. I installed the updater manually too.
Might've been a little unclear in my original post. I tried it wit a genuine DVD (Jurassic Park) and a PS2 game (Forza) , with and without a memory card...
Would be an extremely useful feature, love to see it.
