I'm a fan of @mtshrmn's idea. In my opinion as soon as the user hits enter they don't need to see the search bar anymore. That would be option 3...

This was fixed for me by installing `protobuf-compiler`.

I'm also interested in this, as I'm working a tool which needs to simulate a virtual graphics tablet with variable pen pressure and tilt.

Just chiming in, I think I'd prefer the status bar/infobox to show up at the bottom by default.
