Is there any reason the API-returned data isn't simply cached? I don't see why it needs to be loaded for every single page render.
Django does both things to incredible success. Do you have more concrete reasoning than "I don't like it"?

I would argue _against_ changing such a fundamental default, given that the library is presumably used in several thousand codebases.
It wouldn't have to be a breaking change if `upper.io` was left online. People can switch their import paths to `github` if they want reliability over vanity.
