Just noting here, plotly has now started supporting mathjaxv3 from march 5th https://github.com/plotly/plotly.js/pull/6073 for v2.10.0

This issue will take a new plotly release to be resolved it seems. According to the thread I raised in plotly https://github.com/plotly/plotly.py/issues/3696 . We will have to wait a bit.
