yes that's about right, no one is saying it's easy, it's more a statement that it's a manual process.
You might want to target the 3.x branch so you don't have to support the very old versions of PHP

I'm not seeing anything strictly wrong here, also the build process is changed for 3.x to where this isn't the case either.
