@hj-johannes-lee sounds like this blocks the envtest work. Would you be able to address at least the setting/unsetting part?

@bart0sh that's OK. We should change #899 according to that and update the issue description to say that current is as expected.

@alekdu would you have the time to work on this? Check the README for more details about e2e tests.
