As a good starting example, only the frames where the character puts a foot down should actually play the appropriate footstep sound. (i.e., make that work.)
At the very least, characters need shadows. World looks particularly flat without them.
When the player is behind some architecture, the sprite should render with a hole punched through it so the player and the immediate surroundings are still visible.
Kinda important for a release-ish demo. Please make it skippable or I will get sick of it so fast.
