You're right, the limit is 100KB total and 8KB per item, per https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Add-ons/WebExtensions/API/storage/sync. Perhaps the sync can be for just models API keys for convenience. For more full syncs, PageShare...
