FWIW, a temporary workaround is to run copyq as `QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb copyq`, as mentioned in docs https://copyq.readthedocs.io/en/latest/known-issues.html#on-linux-global-shortcuts-pasting-or-clipboard-monitoring-does-not-work.
