My suggestions: word-by-word pronounciation -> character-based annotation segmented pronounciation -> word-based annotation Romanization pinyin already uses base characters -> Romanized ruby already uses words as base text
Maybe "erhua" should be lowercase? I see it is lowercase on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erhua

Yes, it should. Currently, "、" (顿号/頓號) is mentioned in [§ 3.1.1.1 Pause or Stop Punctuation Marks](https://w3c.github.io/clreq/#h-pause-or-stop-punctuation-marks) and we're planning to add a section about list styling requirements.
