Our CI will only test v0 since none of the releases have the newer IIO. Any ideas how to get the v1 code path tested in CI?

Agree ... conditionals or some kind of refactoring is far better than two nearly identical classes.
This at least gets everything into one set of files. I suspect that maintenance would be even easier if some of the legacy functions were reimplemented as wrappers around the...
I think the single set of files was the main thing. The rest was a suggestion for the people who will be maintaining contents of these files (not me!).
I'm going to make this Draft, based on the comments above. We can revisit when the new API is out.
Is this a change you actually want to make, and if so, why no backport?
I'm going to add the backport tag, just so we don't lose track of this, but leave the no backport tag as well.
It sounds like this one is worth another release? Or does the problem hit only under certain conditions?
