Yes, this is a known issue.
I think @Evil-Spirit had a patch for this already too, I'll need to look around in the old repository. That said, thanks anyway, this might come in handy!

Triage: still an issue after baf9dc0aae573f017b8477e5d438665e90e2d5ae, although I get many fewer problematic edges (different chord tolerance?).
