The real fix would obviously be just a proper error handle but. It would be kinda of a neat / niche feature to have pcsx2 force an xserver or wayland...
So, for ps1 mode. I'm assuming the track sector counts or "Modes" like MODE_SIZE_2340 for readTrack are adjusted by SetMode bit 5? Will that change for ps2 mode?

Can you run evtest and post the top half of it looking at your device? I say top half as in the static listing of buttons etc not the keys...
