I have no idea. I have no dongle, let alone a E1731 dongle. If you provide a PR, I'll happily review it for sanity and merge it.

I agree that the `lock_*` functions are hackish (and partially code-duplicated). Note that recent Ubuntu's/Debians don't ship with liblockdev, so they should be able to fall back to file-based locking....
