I don't think it actually has to create a .checkstyle file... it just dynamically configures the Checkstyle Eclipse plug-in on the fly, I think (but I am not 100% sure)....

Usual Error Log (not Problems) view in Eclipse UI, or log file normally next to your eclipse EXEcutable?
