Unfortunately it's not maintained anymore. I was looking into [django-tree-queries](https://github.com/matthiask/django-tree-queries) a while ago and now I see it's linked from mppt project as well. Might be an option.

I am conscious that relying on an unmaintained library is both a risk and a pain, but unfortunately I don't have the capacity at the moment to evaluate new core...

Sure, seems a good idea. Happy if you can draft it! Locally I am using also [a dedicated repository](https://github.com/vittoriozamboni/django-groups-manager-migrator) to check if the migrations from older versions to new ones...

I will do the 1.3 release with the current tooling, then we can think about moving to a different one.
