@wwmm I agree that it's probably pipewire (or some other system component); since the device is not simply disabled, it's _gone_, there must be some hidden complexity in identifying that...
You _should_ be able to see by just looking what device has the checkmark button enabled in pavucontrol
Also, when it comes to funny GUI stuff, it really helps to know if you're running wayland or X11.
