I have the same issue, upon reloading or rebooting HA, it then starts to communicate but after a few mins, it stops all of a sudden. Really stumped currently.

I managed to resolve my issues. I found the IP address of the modbus was conflicting another device on my network. I had forgotten I have a wifi range extender...
