Your description of steps does not make sense to me. If you've created a custom CSS template, then that template needs to be assigned in config. Set `export_templates->css` to `~/.config/doing/templates/mycustom.css`...

You can’t add your own keys to export templates, you can only point existing keys to your custom template. Add your path to the css key and when you export...

If you set `tags_color` in the root config or in any template (default in this case), it should highlight tags. Set it to any color name that the template engine...

This will take some digging and I won't get to it for a while. If you know a little bit of Ruby, feel free to dig into source and see...

The last command provides colorized tags for me...  I'm not sure why you wouldn't be getting them. The other tags in the entry are colored?
