Performance: attic create stalls while index is read back

Good idea, but the NAS I access (LACIE Cloudbox) only supports sftp ;). And why should my observed behaviour change anyway?

Implement mid-file checkpoints?

I can verify this. I just tried to upload a big 20GB VDI-File over shaky sshfs and no checkpoint was created while transfering this file. It would definitely be great...
