+1 for the 'in-dsp' solution `reported_latency(int samples)` I think I saw some plugins even change the reported latency dynamically, depending on settings (e.g. look-ahead in compressors).

thanks - I hope it's fine to throw in some ideas from a usability perspective.

If shift and ctrl buttons are in use already, it could be done with right-click-drag... One plugin I use frequently does that and it's very good handling and super fast.
