Food for thought. Do we necessarily need to store the raw bytes in Rocks if the we treat the blocks directory as immutable and the source of truth?

Compactions are already logged in the RocksDB LOG file. We may want to log to a custom file?

This is about the journey rather than the destination. Getting to the end of the long tail is likely untenable but we've improved our codebase. Closing.
