Oh, bleh, didn't catch the part about macros. I guess nuking the insert mode mappings entirely would be fine.

I think what should happen is if you press `=` on the `Staged` header to "expand all", it should automatically expand additionally added files. I'm not looking forward to bolting...

I'm sure you could hack it with a sophisticated enough autocommand but it would take some doing. How upset would people be if I changed the default? The old style...

What would an implementation look like? This sounds way more complicated than character transposition.
