Ok too bad, I'm not a big fan of all the chrome and overhead introduced by the use of _platformio-ide-terminal_, IMHO it was slicker before.

You're correct, this could depend on how the cache key is built. However, now that I more thought about it, you would better off with simplest keys possible to increase...
