Yeah, there are actually quite a few closing tags that can be omitted per spec. I have something working and will roll it into some planned 1.8.0 changes.

If you have a patch or pull request I will apply it to the 1.x branch, otherwise I am focusing efforts on getting 2.x tested and released.
