I've set this on the 0.6.0 milestone, with the hope that my caching and deduplication changes I'm implementing should help to offset this issue entirely.

Should be fixed in `0.5.8` (need people to confirm before I close).

I'm open to this change, but what are the consequences of the bad case, where the PID is not correctly found based on the PID 1 heuristic?

Can you test with the `ghcr.io/tale/headplane:next` Docker image please? Keep in mind it requires Headscale 0.26 or higher to work.

Looks like you didn't pass in the configuration correctly. It's up to you to make sure your setup is correct before I can debug issues.
