FYI it's broken in 3005 too.
My humble impression is that Salt code is getting overcomplicated beyond maintainability. At least any major upgrade is an adventure and we've used salt since version 2016.3 or even 2015.something...
Do you guys actually care about backwards compatibility? This worked fine in 2016.11 (and possibly some later versions) but doesn't work anymore in 3000.8.
